Did you know that March is National American Red Cross Month? Learn more about this lifesaving organization in this month’s Cause Spotlight! Thanks to Kayla Scott, Major Gifts Officer at the Red Cross Nebraska/Southwest Iowa Region, for the great information.

Tell us a little bit about your organization.

The Red Cross is helping to prevent human suffering. Whether it’s installing smoke alarms down the street, providing lifesaving blood to hospitals across the state or deploying volunteers to disasters throughout the country we are making a difference down the street, across the country and around the world.

What’s the most exciting thing happening right now with your organization?

Our volunteers and community partners are fanning out across at-risk neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms and help residents create fire escape plans. We’ve already saved over 300 lives across the country, and on Saturday, May 12th you can help us save more lives by volunteering for our Sound the Alarm, Save a Live smoke alarm installation event in Bellevue, NE.

How can supporters get involved with your organization?

Register to volunteer with the Red Cross by visiting www.redcross.org .Whether helping one displaced family or thousands, providing care and comfort to an ill or injured service member or veteran, or teaching others how to respond in emergencies, it’s through the efforts of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things. You can also register to donate blood at www.redcrossblood.org! One blood donation saves up to three lives.

Why should people consider TAGGing for you? How does your organization promote/use TAGG?

$15 Provides 1 smoke alarm installation – Covers the fire safety training and installation for one smoke alarm. The Red Cross, through coalitions of community partners, installs smoke alarms and provides fire and disaster safety education in at-risk communities across the country. The Red Cross also collected 40% of the nation’s blood supply last year! We love to promote TAGG on our social media channels and to our volunteers through email.
